At worst, he’s guilty of campaigning on the promise of hope.” Following in the footsteps of the Albuquerque Tribune and Santa Fe Mexican, New Mexico’s largest paper, the Albuquerque Journal, endorses Obama for president. In not unrelated news, Clinton and Obama appear to be statistically tied in New Mexico. (Obama’s up 6, but the margin of error is 7.)

Here’s hoping my state thinks smart.
It makes me kinda wonder why Richardson (who I strongly suspect to favor Clinton) is sitting on his hands through this whole thing. Any thoughts?
Good question, Jim. I thought Richardson would be an easy Clinton pick-up too.
There were rumors that the Clintons (before the NH comeback) were profoundly irritated with Richardson when he didn’t get out after Iowa. Maybe, that rankled Richardson.
Also, maybe he wants to see how his state shakes out. If NM turns out to be Obama country, he may not want to get behind the Clintons.
My guess is he’ll still come out for the Clintons in the end (unless he watched the Super Bowl with Bill to tell him the bad news.) Since this race looks to be continuing after Feb. 5, perhaps he’s being kept as a response to a Edwards or Gore endorsement for Obama.
