Is anyone else out there having a problem with interminably long rebuild times on Movable Type? It’s been slow as molasses around here since 3.11, and 3.121 hasn’t helped matters. And it’s gotten to the point where it takes 15-20 minutes to post a single entry or to delete one wave of comment-spam, which obviously is cutting down on the choice links and commentary in these parts. Advice on rectifying this would be greatly appreciated, either here or at my post in the MT forums. Update: Michal Sabren, the always friendly proprietor of Cornerhost, has tweaked the archiving around here, which should hopefully bring things back up to speed.

I’m probably outta my depth here but do you know whether you’re using Berkeley DB or MySQL as your database format?
Hmm…well, I’m definitely out of my depth. But I’m using the default, which I believe is Berkeley DB (I never ran mt-db2sql.cgi or the like.)
Hmmm…the default? I never set up MySQL, so I’m definitely not using that. (For that matter, I’m not sure I ever set up Berkeley either…my mt.cfg still just says “DataSource ./db”…but it worked well for a couple of years at least.)
Would switching to MySQL speed everything up? I’ll have to pay more to Cornerhost per month, but I’d be happy to do it if it means the problem is solved.
Looks like you’re using Berkeley DB. I know from personal experience that switching over to MySQL addresses all sorts of database issues (e.g., corruption, etc.). Definitely look into it if you’ve eliminated other possible culprits.
