At Midnight All the Agents…

“This trailer speaks to the fanbase in a huge way. Your friends and neighbors will be damn impressed by what they’re seeing, but they’ll also be slightly baffled. They’ll want to know more – who is that blue guy? Who is flying that ship coming out of the water? Are they on Mars? Why is that guy getting thrown through a window? – so get ready to start lending out your book.” One of the CHUD guys takes a spin with the Watchmen trailer, due before The Dark Knight tomorrow night. Sounds great, and while Snyder’s 300 turned out to be more than a little ridiculous, it’s still boasts a helluva trailer.

Update: The Watchmen trailer officially drops over at Empire Online tomorrow, at — of course — the stroke of midnight (EST).

Blithe Spirit.

The trailer for Frank Miller’s take on Will Eisner’s The Spirit leaks, and it’s a strange one, seemingly combining the visual atmosphere of Sin City with the gender economy of Dave Sim…and that doesn’t even get into Nazi Samuel L. It looks like it could be a trainwreck, but I’ll put this on the maybe pile.

They Come in Peace (Shoot to Kill).

Klaatu Barada Nikto…the trailer for Scott Derrickson’s remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, with Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, and Jon “Don Draper” Hamm, is now online. (Here’s the Youtube version. Apparently, it’s playing in front of Hancock, which — after being burned by Wanted — I’m now inclined to skip.

Fly like an Eagle | One Smoking Painting.

In the trailer bin, Shia LaBoeuf and Michelle Monaghan take orders from GLaDOS in the new trailer for D.J. Caruso’s Eagle Eye, also with Billy Bob Thornton, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, and Anthony Mackie. And Guy Ritchie tries to conjure up some of that old Lock Stock mojo in the trailer for the very Ritchie-esque Rocknrolla, starring Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Thandie Newton, Idris Elba, Jeremy Piven,and Ludacris. I’d say these are both on the Maybe list.

V, meet Mr. J.

“Introduce a little anarchy, upset the established order, and eVEryoNe lOseS thEir mIndS!” If, like me, you’re devouring all things Dark Knight-related between now and July 18, three more TV spots hit the tubes, and Gotham Tonight is on its second episode. (Careful out there, tho’. The film seems to have now screened, and spoilers are flyin’.) Says Peter Travers: “The haunting and visionary Dark Knight soars on the wings of untamed imagination. It’s full of surprises you don’t see coming. And just try to get it out of your dreams.“

Update: “It’s not about money…it’s about sending a message.” Ugh, temptation everywhere…12 brief clips from the film pop up on the grid. And, don’t forget, tix for those 7/17 midnight shows are now on sale.

I was so much older then.

“I was born under unusual circumstances.” The moody and mesmerizing teaser for David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, from the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald and youtubed in Spanish a few weeks ago, is now officially online, and in hi-def.

Take yon candle from yon oven…

By way of Supercres, the new trailer for (Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.) Clark Gregg’s version of Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke is now online, starring Sam Rockwell, Kelly McDonald, Anjelica Huston, and Brad Henke. Palahniuk’s books tend to run together after awhile, but I did get a kick out of the Colonial Williamsburg conceit in this one. If I remember rightly, Rockwell should spend a good bit of time in the stocks.

By way of Bitten Tongue (who does a nice job of highlighting its provenance), Cinematical gets its hands on the poster for the Coen Brothers’ forthcoming Burn After Reading, with John Malkovich, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Richard Jenkins, David Rasche, and J.K.
