Will the Greens derail Paul Wellstone? Normally, I’m very sympathetic of Green challenges to Dem candidates, but Wellstone is about as progressive as they come. That being said, TNR‘s got no credibility on the issue. They’ve despised the Greens ever since Nader first threatened to upset Marty Peretz’s favorite son.

I kinda like the greens, I voted for Nader in ’00 (OMG don’t lynch me Im a Floridian who helped Bush win!!!!) That objectionable fact aside, I’m all for progressivism and if it’s the greens who are gonna push it…..it’s the greens who are gonna push it. *shrugs*
If you’re really interested in the Minnesota Senate race, particularly the Green candidate, give this (http://news.mpr.org/play/audio.php?media=/midday/2002/05/21_midday1) a listen. I was only able to listen to about fifteen minutes of it the day it was broadcast…but from what I heard, I don’t think McGaa has half a chance of drawing much support away from Wellstone. He seems to be more of the sort of guy who would be running as an Independence Party candidate; more right-wing than I had thought the Greens would want. Don’t trust me on that, though; listen for yourself.
nader has to start campaigning for some of these people cmon…he has to chill with the book writing…
Most Greens I know are planning to vote for Wellstone, and not just because they’re doing outcome math. They genuinely value the dude and his record. But even if a significant number go for McGaa, they’ll probably be canceled out — and then some — by the number of righties who can’t stand voting for an ex-Democrat annointed by Washington who also happens to be living a sham marriage (or so the rumors go). It’ll be a fun race, anyway.
