From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

The crownless again shall be King.

We come to it at last. Reviews and clips below for those of you who aren’t yet swayed. For everyone else, our wait is finally over, our journey at an end. But not before one last foray into Middle Earth, and I get the sense this’ll be one for the ages.

Update: Well, I’m back. In short, RotK is awe-inspiring, at times genuinely scary, and often overwhelming. As per the last two, it’s going to take another viewing to fully wrap my head around it (I’m going again this evening), but I already know it’s head and shoulders above TTT. A full report soon.

  1. That poster looks awfully familiar 😉 (the comments don’t allow the target attribute apparently)

    We plan to see the film on Xmas day like last year.

    Happy holidays, Kev.

  2. Yeah, I saw the Dean one a while ago. But would Aragorn have spent the War of the Ring skiing the moguls of Caradras? 😉

    Happy Holidays right back atcha, bud.

  3. Enjoy the flick tonight. I don’t get to see it until 10am tomorrow morning, but I was actually relived that the midnight tickets were sold out a few weeks ago when I got mine. I’ll be 100% wide awake tomorrow!

  4. Very exciting! Your brother has called me several times today, calling out the hours remaining ’til midnight. Yeeaay for a specially-scheduled day off work tomorrow! 🙂

  5. I just finished re-watching TTT:EE and I still have six hours to go!!! Anyway, here’s a toast to ‘sick days’ and awesome movies.

  6. For the last two years my IT department has taken the LotR release days as “team building events,” and blown off work to see the films. I’m counting down the hours myself.

  7. One word: Spectacular. Die-hard fanboys will still have their complaints about what was cut from the flick, but the “what could have been better” criticisms are far and few between.

    This was far better than I could have hoped and I can’t wait for EE of the ROTK!

  8. Such a fantastic close to a series that will echo through film history. I’m just absolutely overjoyed that the first shot at a LOTR live action movie actually got it right. Even at almost 3.5 hours the movie seems to fly by (though it never really feels rushed). You couldn’t ask any more out of this film. I will have to catch this one again within the week.
