“Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country.” In the Obama veepstakes, Sen. Webb takes himself out of the running. “Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President.”

I really liked the idea of Webb on the ticket. Is there anyone else Webb-ish out there as a possible VP?
Depends what you mean by Webbish. If you mean Virginian, there’s Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. If you mean military-man, there’s Wes Clark or Sam Nunn. If you mean ex-GOP, there’s…Chuck Hagel?
It’s looking like either Biden or Sebelius at the moment.
I’m calling it as Kaine, Sebelius, Biden, and Richardson, in that order of likelihood, with a big gap between Sebelius and Biden (dude is not exactly known for message discipline), and an honest toss-up between Kaine and Sebelius. My preference would be for Sebelius, because God damn it I *do* want to see a woman that high up in government, no matter how badly Hillary let me down. But I’d more than understand the impulse to throw a little more love Virginia’s way, it would be a superb pick-up. So we’ll see. Can’t be long now until an announcement…? Would he really hold it until a week before the convention?
What I liked about Webb was combative, ex-military, pro-working class vigor, which I thought complemented Obama’s cool. Does Kane have a similar fighting temperment to Webb’s?
Sebelius would seem a good fit — if his campaign decides not to go the comforting old white guy route — and Obama’s been speaking very highly of her of late…unfortunately, for bizarre reasons I can’t quite wrap my head around, she apparently drives some Clinton voters nuts.
As far as I know (and I haven’t been back in the state for very long), Kaine is more of the easy-going hail-fellow-well-met, good-ole-boy type, and is probably a longshot anyway. Then again, like I said, I just got back here.
Hmm. That Slate story is pretty dubious — they could’ve titled it “Clinton Supporters Annoyed by Possible Sebelius Pick, According to the Four People I Found Who Said So.”
