“‘The main thing for me is to improve the soccer, to improve the standard, and to be part of history really because I think soccer can be a lot bigger in the U.S.,’ the 31-year-old former England captain said Friday morning on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America.'” I think so too, but is overpaying Becks really the answer? Soccer superstar David Beckham signs with the Los Angeles Galaxy for a cool $250 million.

I don’t understand why they reported it as 5 yrs, $250 mil, if it includes endorsement deals. I read somewhere else that the salary is “only” $10 mil/yr, which sounds about right.
After all, Kobe’s salary is about $17M/yr, but he makes about $30M/year total. But no one referred to the latter number when he re-signed w/LA.
Maybe Beckham’s contract had some sort of guaranteed endorsements? (I’ve also heard it includes a stake in the team)
And LA fans everywhere go “we have soccer team?”
