Buffy and Angel fans, look to the stars: The trailer for Joss Whedon’s Serenity breaks online. I never watched the TV show, so I don’t really know what’s going on here, but I could see myself catching this, if for nothing else than for Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villain. Still, that “define interesting” exchange near the end, among others in this clip, just about sets my teeth on edge.

Knight Over Gotham.
MTV obtains an exclusive new Wayne-centric Batman Begins trailer that includes much more of Katie Holmes and Morgan Freeman (and, briefly, Cillian Murphy and Ken Watanabe) than we’ve seen before.
Thumbs Up…
With only four short days before the destruction of Earth (Don’t Panic, but do get your towel ready, and be sure to stock up on beer and peanuts), Coming Soon obtains a wealth of new stills from the Hitchhiker’s film, including this shot of Marvin at right. (I think you ought to know he’s feeling very depressed.)
Batter up!
Yet another new Batman Begins international poster takes flight (marking six in the series, including this Creature from the Black Lagoon shot I neglected to link to earlier.) Right now, this hoopy frood is trying to contain my fanboy excitement over The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which drops in only 5 short days, but the Bat is lurking in the shadows…
Gimme a V.
A thespian-terrorist connection? The upcoming film version of Alan Moore’s V for Vendetta receives an infusion of grade-A British talent, including Stephen Fry, John Hurt, Tim Pigott-Smith, and Sinead Cusack. (They join James Purefoy, Natalie Portman, and Stephen Rea.)
Darth Spoiler.
In a losing bout with the Dark Side, I broke down and read the full Episode III: Revenge of the Sith script last night (as well as the last chapter of the novelization.) Obviously, massive spoilers involved, none of which I’ll recount here. But I’d say that, at least on paper, the groan-quotient is lower than in Episode II, although the movie does start off somewhat ham-handedly. And, as with Episode I, there are a number of clunky “let’s take a meeting” exposition scenes throughout that I could see coming off rather badly. But, given the action setpieces herein, this should probably be the best of the prequels…or, at least, one hopes.
New from Hasbro!!
Three new Episode III TV spots aimed at kids show up online. If you find yourself with high hopes for this final installment, these should help recalibrate your expectations to accord with the other two prequels.
I’m Super, Thanks for Asking.
While Superman director Bryan Singer flies to the aid of Peter Jackson, son of Krypton Brandon Routh emerges as Clark Kent in the streets of “Metropolis,” as does Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.
Strangelove.
New Line and LotR producer Mark Ordesky hire scribe Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, The Quiet American) to pen the screenplay for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. How this fellow, barely a novitiate in the Magickal Arts, (or for that matter anyone but the esteemed and learned Mr. Norrell) could do this remarkable tome justice is quite beyond me.
Slap-Stick(s).
Moviefone obtains a full scene from Hitchhiker’s (and one not in the book), namely Arthur, Ford, Zaphod, and Marvin trying to cross a field of those slap-happy doodads from the first trailer. A bit goofy on its own, but if the rest of the movie has succeeded into lulling you into Douglas Adams‘ trademark sense of humor by this point, I could see this being pretty funny.
