Well, a number of people have suggested that I put the GitM sidebar back on the left side of the screen, so it’s been done. As per usual, I’ve also received a number of blog-comments asking me to try phentermine, gamble online, and procure some cheap auto insurance, but, alas, those requests will not so readily be fulfilled here. Sorry, xysggsll and Cheap Phentermine Now!, and thanks for writing. (Bring on the Typekey, y’all.)

Four More Years!
Ghost in the Machine is four years old today. We’ve weathered lots of personal, political, and cinematic ups and downs since that badly written entry on 11.15.99 (as the archives new and old will attest), but it’s funny how most of the topics covered here at length (Dem politics, movie reviews, fanboy culture, the Knickerbockers) were foreshadowed in that first rambling preamble. As for the hits, well…I’m not going to talk about the hits, ’cause you won’t stay in this business for four long years if you dwell too heavily on the site stats. So, to paraphrase FDR, “I should like to have it said of GitM‘s first administration that in it the forces of selfishness, lust for power, and lousy film transitions of fanboy properties met their match; I would like to have it said of its second administration that in it these forces met their master.” Here’s to four more years!
Technical Difficulties.
Hey y’all – The site was experiencing issues this morning, but we seem to be back up now. Sorry about that.
Sea of Spam.
Like Genehack, Do You Feel Loved?, and countless other MT blogs, I’ve had to deal with a spate of comment spamming lately. So, for anyone else with similar issues, here’s an anti-spam hack for MT…please drop me a line if you notice the comments getting overrun.
Fan Mail.
In the e-mail inbox yesterday morning: “PhD or no PhD. You are nothing but a scum liberal with an agenda to push.” Thoughtful, eh? Scum progressive, people. I mean, did you even read the site? Ah well, I also found a nice TA review over at CULPA yesterday, though, so karmically it all evened out.
Greetings and Salutations.
I see Katrina vanden Heuvel’s blog over at The Nation has linked to my Arthur Schlesinger page. Well, if you’ve made it over here from there, welcome…the book pages are nice and all, but this is where the action is.
Summer Molting.
Design’s in flux again. Sorry if you tried to check the site sometime between changes, when it was virtually unreadable.
Irrational Exuberance?
Apparently, I’m currently a growth stock over at Blogshares. Get in while the going’s good.
Search and Destroy.
Since GitM is now larger than 500 pages, Atomz will no longer search the site for free. Can anyone out there recommend any good free search applications? Update: With help from Kestrel’s Nest, I’ve solved the problem for the time being. Thanks, Eric (and sorry about that tooth.)
Let a 1000 links bloom.
FYI, after several complaints, I’ve finally figured out how to enable HTML in the comments. (Like most issues with Movable Type, it was absurdly easy to fix.)
