Crunch Time.
Down ten points with two weeks to go in the race for the New York governorship, the Dems threaten to cut Carl McCall off in order to work on removing Jeb in Florida. Hmmm…that’s a lot of ground to make up, particularly given that the sniper story has halted political coverage over the past ten days or so. If in fact the DC sniper was apprehended this morning, I wonder if the networks will get back in the business of election coverage. Somehow, I doubt it…and if they do it’ll be more about Saddam than the economy. Sigh.
I’ll be back.
Arnold Schwarzenegger bides his time in the California Governor’s race.
Cuomo backs out.
In a surprising turn of events, Andrew Cuomo conceded defeat yesterday in the NY Democratic gubernatorial primary (with maybe a little push from “Boss Clinton”.) Savvy of him to realize the writing on the wall, that a scorched earth attack in the last week wouldn’t go over very well amid the increasingly ubiquitous September 11 memorial climate.
No-go for Cuomo.
Surprisingly, it seems President and Senator Clinton are now quietly backing H. Carl McCall over former Clinton Cabinet official (and Gore hack) Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for NY Governor. Is this residual fallout from the much-rumored Clinton-Gore rift in 2000, or just a savvy political move to set up for 2008?
Carolina Tie.
The GOP primary produces a runoff between Sanford and Peeler in SC. (More race coverage.)
Truckin’.
Republican candidates for the South Carolina governorship try to outredneck each other. Only in Carolina would a candidate brag that he “stood up against the NAACP when no one else would.” Unbelievable.
