Worlds of wonder abound in the trailer bin today, including our first real look at Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm (looks a bit Munchausen-y…and I hope I can get used to Matt Damon’s accent) and this trippy voyage into Neil Gaiman’s Mirrormask. And, speaking of Gaiman, his and Robert Zemeckis’ forthcoming version of Beowulf has a cast: Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Brendan Gleeson, and Robin Wright Penn.

So that’s how Bruce Wayne made his money…Christian Bale shows up as John Rolfe in the new trailer for Terence Malick’s The New World, also starring Colin Farrell (as John Smith), newcomer Q’Orianka Kilcher (as Pocahontas), Christopher Plummer, Wes Studi, Noah Taylor, and David Thewlis.
The Candyman Can.
Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew? Willy Wonka opens the factory for public consumption in the new and rather saccharine trailer for Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. To quote the man himself, “You’re really weird.”
Big Trouble in Super Hogwarts.
The Incredibles meets Mean Girls in the new trailer for Disney’s Sky High. Looks like it might be a better-than average kid’s movie, particularly with characters like Bruce Campbell and Dave Foley in the mix.
Islands in the Stream.
A late online arrival to the slew of trailers swimming in Sith‘s wake: Clones Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson evade Sean Bean (and look to Steve Buscemi for answers) in the new trailer for Michael Bay’s The Island. Bay-flicks tend to annoy me, but I could see this being useful as two hours of air conditioning at some point this summer.
Four, War, and a Bore.
Big-time summer trailers piggybacking off of Sith this week include the final trailer for Fantastic Four (I actually liked the Magic Johnson NBA spot, but this is looking lame again) and a new War of the Worlds trailer, with our first brief look at the invaders. Also, Top Guns Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, and Josh Lucas go up against a renegade Skynet-like fighter in the new trailer for Stealth. Oof, Sam Shepard and Joe Morton must have some bills to pay.
Cavaliers and Clay.
In the trailer bin today, Movie-Voice-Guy does his Almighty best to oversell The Da Vinci Code, and Wallace and Gromit leap to the big screen in W&G: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Courtesy of Cannes, the trailer for David Cronenberg’s A History of Violence, starring Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ed Harris, and William Hurt, is now online (in lousy formats). Seems strangely unCronenberg-like, from the previews…where are the fleshy, pulsating things? Perhaps this is his Straight Story.

After a train wreck of an initial trailer, the marketing gurus at Columbia Pictures borrow liberally from Splash in the new trailer for Nora Ephron’s Bewitched. Nope, still won’t see it.
