They hate people, but they love gatherings: The new Internet teaser for Kevin Smith’s Clerks II, which has the lovely Rosario Dawson joining Dante, Randall, Jay, Silent Bob, and a smattering of Smith regulars in Fast Food Hell, is now online. My guess is it’ll probably be watchable, if nothing else.

You know, it’s just possible that this might end up succeeding as a penetrating satire of directionless thirtysomethings caught in the service sector. Consider the subdued cinematography in the trailer and the tailer’s general moribund tone. Far from mining a cash cow, it seems that Smith might be serving up a warning, which strikes me as a slightly subversive filmmaking angle.
I *very* guardedly agree with you, ed. It’s what I’m hoping for. Clerks was heavy-handed with the ‘malaise of daily living in a dead end job’ realm, but it was pretty honest. I don’t think that Kevin Smith has worked very hard at exercising his subtlety or nuance muscles, but that doesn’t mean he can’t produce a strong and informed piece of satire.
Granted, I still laughted at the pie-f*cker jokes in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. And Mark Hammil as C*ck-Knocker. It weren’t art, but it was good for a laugh.
And I like looking at Rosario Dawson.
A lot.
It still won’t be as good as Mallrats.
